From early in my pregnancy, I knew I wanted to travel with our baby – before they started to become mobile.

I did everything in my power to convince Brendan to hire an RV and travel through the US and Canada, with a side trip through Europe on the way home. He wouldn’t have a bar of it so after many conversations, Tasmania ended up being the compromise.

The first leg of the journey would see us driving down the East Coast of Australia, leaving from Kingscliff, Northern NSW – and 12 days later, arriving in Melbourne.

We let Nahlo take the reins and found he slept amazingly in the car. If we got him in his car seat at first indication of him being tiered, and chanted rolling Aums, it would lull him to sleep, and then, when he woke up, we would take the next exit to take a break until his next nap time. The break would usually beΒ one and a half to two hours, before hitting the road again. We realised that realistically, we could only manage about 3.5 hours on the road each day. It was awesome not knowing where we were going to lay our heads that night. Not for everyone hut I’m a spontaneous creature by heart.

Here are some shots of the first leg of our journey.

The rock formations and caves were stunning. It drizzled while we walked around the water. Our first taste of cool weather, welcomed after the insane heat.
